Common questions

What is the best time to visit the forest, morning or evening?expand_more
Both departures offer completely different experiences! The Morning Tour (6:00 AM) is the absolute best choice for birdwatchers, photographers, and nature lovers, as the forest is cool and the birds and mammals are highly active. The Evening Tour (2:00 PM) offers cooler late-afternoon temperatures and gives you a chance to see crepuscular wildlife as the forest transitions into dusk.
How long is the tour, and how much walking is involved?expand_more
The entire excursion lasts approximately 5 hours, including shuttle travel to and from your hotel. The time spent inside the forest consists of gentle to moderate walking along shaded nature trails. We pace the walk according to our guests' comfort levels, making frequent stops to observe wildlife, look at plants, and listen to the insights shared by your guide.
Is transport included from my hotel?expand_more
Yes! We provide convenient round-trip shuttle transfers. Our driver will pick you up directly from your hotel, resort, or private villa within the Watamu area and bring you back safely at the end of the tour. Pickup times will be confirmed upon booking.
What should I wear for the forest trek?expand_more
We highly recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes or trainers with good grip. Light, breathable clothing in neutral colors (greens, browns, or khakis) is ideal. Avoid bright colors like white or neon, which can startle the wildlife. Because it is a natural jungle environment, wearing long trousers and a light long-sleeved shirt can help protect against brush and insects.
Is the forest safe, and do we need a guide?expand_more
The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is very safe, but because it is a dense, protected wilderness covering over 400 square kilometers, you cannot enter without an experienced guide. Our team consists entirely of licensed KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service) or local forest guides who know the tracks perfectly, understand animal behavior, and ensure your absolute safety and comfort throughout the trip.
What happens if it rains?expand_more
The forest canopy provides excellent natural shelter from light showers, and the rain often brings out the vibrant colors of the butterflies and leaves. We operate rain or shine, which is why we recommend packing a lightweight waterproof shell jacket in your day pack just in case! If extreme weather makes the trails unsafe, we will contact you to reschedule the tour.
Are snacks and drinks provided?expand_more
Yes, we keep you energized and hydrated! The tour package includes refreshing cold drinks (water/juice) and a selection of light snacks to enjoy during our designated rest breaks deep inside the forest.
Are there restroom facilities in the forest?expand_more
There are basic restroom facilities available at the main Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) forest headquarters at the start of the tour. However, once we journey deep into the forest trails, there are no public restrooms. We highly recommend using the facilities at the park entrance before the trek begins.
